Looking for Your OTTB's Race Photos? Find them in 5 Easy Steps!

A common question we get from OTTB owners is, "How do I find my horse's racing photos?" It may seem like an insurmountable task, but we will break it down for you into a few simple steps.

Step 1: 

Find your horse's Jockey Club name. If you already know it, great! If not, you can search by their tattoo number (if they have one) on the Jockey Club website, or look on their papers. If neither of those work, you can scan for a microchip (ask your vet) or contact the Jockey Club for a DNA kit. 

Step 2: 

Look up your horse's race record. An easy place to do this is on Equibase.com. Make sure you enter your horse's Jockey Club name with the exact spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. We also use Pedigreequery.com, but as that is a crowd-sourced and editable database, it may not have information as reliable as Equibase.

Step 3:

Once you locate your horse on Equibase, go to the "Results" tab and scan the race record for any 1st place finishes. Most horses will only have race photos taken if they were the winner of the race. If there are no wins, you can still find race videos of your horse, as long as he did make it to the races.

Step 4: 

Determine the name of the racetrack where their winning race took place. You can find this on the Equibase race record. We've made a quick video to help show this process:

Step 5: 

Scan the list below for contact information of the track photographer. If the track doesn't have a photographer listed, you can contact the racetrack for the photographer's contact information.
